As you may already know, we at Christ the King Manor, are celebrating 50 years of serving our community. Throughout 2021, CTKM is supporting 12 organizations that share a similar mission as we do: "...to provide care through the healing mission of Jesus Christ, empowering those we serve to live full and dignified lives." So far, we have supported 3 different organizations in our community and plan to continue to support many more throughout the year!
In January, we supported the Gateway Humane Society. One of our favorite fundraisers that we did to raise money internally was a “Cutest Pet” contest. Pictures of the staff’s pets were placed in the activities room. The pet that raised the most money won a gift basket. The winner was Karen Sierzega and Bubbles her dog. Along with the cutest pet contest, we did an internal raffle basket and a 50/50. Physical donations were accepted directly to the Humane Society, as well. In total, we raised $850 for the Gateway Humane Society.
In February, we benefited the Penn Highlands Heart Center. Peanut butter meltaways from Gardner’s Candy were sold to help raise money for this initiative We also conducted a blood drive in the Community Center with the American Red Cross. To continue to help raise monies for the Penn Highlands Heart Center, hand-made Valentine’s could be purchased for the residents as well as for other staff. Each valentine contained a homemade, decorated sugar cookie and a carnation donated by Kacie Roseman from Roses on Main. One of our most successful fundraisers was the Powerhouse subs sale. With these fundraisers, we were able to raised $2,000 for the Penn Highlands Heart Center.
In March, we supported Grady’s Decision. Our 50th Anniversary Committee sold Powerhouse subs and had two raffle baskets. To help raise money, we sold tulips, lilies, and hyacinths. They were purchased by families for residents as well as themselves. The flowers were delivered to everyone right before Easter. An exact donation number will be announced in the near future.
This month, we are supporting the Parkside Community Center. Our 50th Anniversary Committee a has already done a Hoagie sale with Powerhouse subs, and we are currently selling candy bars from Dan Smith’s Candy. A staff-only fundraiser was conducted as a lunch fundraiser where all proceeds went towards this initiative. Employees could purchase a sausage sandwich, spring salad, a cookie, and a water. There is also a raffle basket this month for employees to have a chance to win.
Going forward to next month we will be supporting the Free Medical Clinic. Keep an eye out on our website for more updates on how we are celebrating each month! www.ctkmanor.org/50years
